Murphy Jewellers Workshop

Jewellery Repairs & Maintenance

Murphy Jewellers in Kilkenny offers a full service jewellery fabrication and repair workshop available for cleaning & polishing, claw checks, resizing, remounting as well as a full bespoke jewellery service. We have two DCCI (Design & Crafts Council Ireland) qualified goldsmith/silversmiths and a GIA certified gemologist (expert in diamonds & gemstones) in-house.

Cleaning & Polishing

We offer cleaning & polishing service for most jewellery items. Cleaning and/or polishing is a free service for all items bought in-store.

Polishing is only available for the following metals: sterling silver, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum, palladium. Rhodium plating is available for white gold items. See below.

Rhodium Plating

Rhodium is a silvery metal that doesn't tarnish easily. White gold and sterling silver can be plated with rhodium to keep it protected and shiny.

Rhodium plating is available from our workshop in Kilkenny. Allow up to one week for this service.

For items purchased in-store, we offer 2 free rhodium platings and charge for all platings thereafter or for items not purchased at Murphys.

Claw Checks

For any claw-set diamond or gemstone jewellery, we suggest having claws checked yearly for wear and damage. If you claws have been damaged or your stones are loose, a claw check will determine if further repair is needed and will ensure you don't loose your diamond or gemstone.

Ring Resizing

Most rings can be sized up or down in-house. Price & time needed is dependent on each individual item and you will be given in estimate when leaving your piece in with us.

Remounts & Stone Setting

Our in-house goldsmiths can remount diamonds or gemstones, secure or tighten loose stones as well as re-tip claws.

Repairing Broken or Unwearable Jewellery

We specialise in taking an old, broken or unworn piece of jewellery and transforming into something loved again. Visit our Bespoke Jewellery page to learn more.

Other types of jewellery repairs we can undertake are to solder links, repair or shorten bracelets & chains, and fit new clasps.

Please note: Not every piece of jewellery can be repaired satisfactorily and we reserve the right to refuse to take a repair if we don't believe it can be repaired properly. Some repairs may be undertaken at the customers own risk but you will be advised before we proceed and you will be asked to sign off that you understand there is a risk the piece may be damaged in the repair process. If a piece cannot be repaired, it often can be remade or remounted.
