All jewellery should be worn carefully and not subjected to rough use.
It is advisable to take off your jewellery while engaging in manual labour either at home or in work. Jewellery can become bent and misshapen quite easily and possibly even break if the stress placed on it is too great.
All jewellery with stones in it should have the stones setting checked once a year if worn daily. This is a simple process which takes approximately 30 seconds per item. Jewellery should not be polished excessively but you can clean your jewellery regularly.
To clean gemstones you will need an old toothbrush, some soap and hot water.
1. Place the jewellery with the stones in some hot water to loosen the dirt.
2. After 5 minutes wet the toothbrush and apply some soap on the bristles.
3. Scrub and poke the stones in the jewellery particularly from underneath and the sides of the stone. As you do this a lather will form
4. After scrubbing place the jewellery under a hot running tap to wash away the soap.
NB. Do not rinse in soapy water as soap is what starts the build up of dirt on the back of gemstones.
